Ontology · Knowledge Graph · Taxonomy

Do you and your AI need to better understand your data?

That's what ontologies are for. My goal is to give you the knowledge and tools to leverage semantics. I help my clients understand when graphs are useful, and then give them the tools to quickly capture that value.

Services

Ontology Design

Domain modeling with stakeholders, producing an ontology your team can understand, extend, and maintain.

Knowledge graph strategy

Use-case selection, architecture, and roadmap for taking a knowledge graph from idea to production.

Ontology-grounded AI

Using ontologies and graphs to ground LLM applications, improve retrieval, and make answers traceable.

Data integration and governance

Shared vocabularies, taxonomies, and metadata models that connect systems and reduce ambiguity.

Training and workshops

Practical sessions that bring your team up to speed on ontology, semantic technologies, and modeling practice.

Reviews and second opinions

An independent look at an existing ontology with concrete recommendations.

Approach

Make sure ontology is the right tool for the job. Then use it wisely.

  1. Plan

Clarify and scope the usecase. Perform independent research and discuss with SMEs. Set clear success criteria.

  2. Build

Create the ontology, ETL pipelines, and initial queries. Don't forget the tests!

  3. Utilize

Ensure the model is useful. Have an end to end process that can clearly deliver value.

  4. Hand off

Document, train, and leave your team able to run it without me.

Ways to work together

Project

A POC is often the best starting point. We take a tightly scoped end to end project that can be done in less than 40 hours ideally. For clients who already know they want a more substantial engagement, we can start there as well.

Advisory retainer

Clients have access to Casey's expertise for things like ontology reviews, planning, sales and marketing advice, etc. Conditions may vary by client needs. But typical patterns involve weekly or monthly meetings, regular processing of ontology/AI adjacent copy/plans, and providing timely training or resources.

Hiring Services

Building an ontology team is difficult. Casey can help recommend candidates, lead interviews, and vet candidate answers. Too many organizations hire their first ontologist without having any internal expertise to really evaluate the candidate.
