In the last video, I confessed that I don't have a tight definition for AI. I am now on a quest to remedy that, and we're starting with the popular Turing Test. Alan Turing's work in "The Imitation Game" is arguably the start of AI as we know it, and so it's a great place to snag our first definition: Artificial Intelligence is a thinking machine (as determined by the Turing Test).

Spoiler: This definition, while clear and influential, doesn't work. It fails to capture many things we intuitively think of as AI (e.g. Chat GPT and chess engines). And it has the fatal flaw that imitation is not identity.

I've got a few other definitions to try after this one, but I always want to hear what my viewers have to say.
